‘Deep’ Malay Cultural Psychology

In modern Malaysia, attitudes born in the traditional village, as well as Islam, are being used to defend against threats to the Malay world’s important symbolic boundaries.

They, so many of them, would rather have to themselves, unshared and exclusively ‘on their own terms’, 100 per cent of a small and dubious inheritance — to squabble over interminably among themselves — than to have and enjoy a substantial stake in a thriving enterprise that they must share, sensibly, in both material gratitude and human generosity, with others.  More on this ‘Malay cultural psychology’ another time…

When Malay villagers in former times felt themselves threatened — by human enemies, by wild animals, by plague and illness, by the supernatural terrors of the surrounding jungle, by the dark and all the unseen dangers that it might conceal — they would huddle together for strength. They would find assurance in and seek protection from the spirit-challenging jampi (spell) of a bomoh and would recite do’a, Islamic pleas and prayers. Together, they would chant especially potent verses and sura from the Quran for protection from encroaching evil.

In a similar way, overall, to that older village social universe, the Malay political world in peninsular Malaysia these days huddles together for reassurance, in kampung-like strength and solidarity, behind a barrier and fortification that is afforded largely by Islam — an Islam under royal patronage and protection and of constitutionally guaranteed standing. It is the old strategy of kampung defence, now writ large.

Through recourse to Islam, threats to the integrity of the Malay world’s important symbolic boundaries can be contained. Islam is used to insulate the boundaries of Malay society against non-Malay intrusion, penetration and subversion — to separate Malay society symbolically and morally from, and elevate it beyond the reach of, its threatening, even contaminating, wider social environment.

This is what, at the deep cultural and psychological level, lies behind, informs and drives the continuing Malay determination to live huddling together for comfort and strength — rather than being eager, ready, or just prepared to engage with others and seek sensibly to share the world with them. They would rather have a smaller, narrower world, but one that is their own, entirely their own, that they may inhabit and hold exclusively on their own cultural terms.

The outside world, the world that surrounds the Malay world, closes in upon it, and asks Malays to engage with it on its broader and more inclusive terms is, somehow, the analogue and functional equivalent of, and is psychologically isomorphic with, the non-human, asocial, non-Malay world of mambang and ghosts, of spirits and wild animals, of strangers and the unknown, that closed in upon the ‘little Malay world’ of the village every night.

Temasek Holdings: We lost S$24 billion ( RM72.21 billion) in a year

Singapore’s sovereign wealth-fund company Temasek Holdings reportedly lost S$24 billion ( RM72.21 billion ) in its latest financial year report FY2016 dating March 31. The news which saw the investment arm of the country’s CPF retirement funds lost 9.02% was announced only 3 months later on July 7. Temasek Holdings lost S$24 billion to S$242 billion from S$266 billion a year ago.

Temasek Holdings’ CEO, Ho Ching, who is also the wife of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, did not comment on her lacklustre performance but the annual report blamed “volatile markets” for the losses.

Although Ho Ching avoided commenting on the issues, her senior managing director Michael Buchaman deflected responsibility for the losses citing “volatility” and even tell Singaporeans to expect “lower returns”:

“Equity markets around the world will remain susceptible to bouts of volatility in the short to medium term. There is increased uncertainty, partly reflecting the ongoing hangover from the excesses that helped cause the global financial crisis. This suggests an environment of lower returns in the years to come.”

The Central Provident Fund has for the first time delayed the announcement of an expected increase in mandatory minimum sum, which was traditionally due on every 1st of July. Singaporeans are not allowed to withdraw their CPF unless they meet the Minimum Sum, emigrate or when they become deceased. Most Singaporean elderly are unable to retire because of insufficient CPF funds, mainly caused by the low interest generated by the CPF.

It is understood that CPF funds pays interest rates as low as 2.5% to CPF account holders while Temasek Holdings borrowed the funds at the same low interest rates to invest in high returns and lucrative investments. Temasek Holdings will pocket the difference in profits and claimed to return the profits to the national reserve. Nobody knows the amount of national reserves Singapore have, not even the elected President.

Criticisms of the husband and wife duo, Ho Ching and Lee Hsien Loong, of nepotism will result in defamation lawsuits. In 2015, online blogger Roy Ngerng was found guilty of defaming Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in a default judgment and was ordered to pay S$150,000.

The New York Times: DS Najib Is Untouchable And Unstoppable!

NYT
Even more interesting is Muhyiddin’s statement that he was aware of the conspiracy to oust Najib and even knows all the people behind that conspiracy. Hence the conspiracy involving the six Tan Sri that Malaysia Today revealed more than a year ago has been confirmed by Muhyiddin himself.

Anyway, Najib may have taken his time but he eventually, albeit slowly, purged the government and Umno and got rid of all those who carried daggers behind their backs. And it is long overdue because in the US the day the new President takes over he replaces all the key positions with his own people. Watch what is going to happen soon when either Trump or Clinton takes over as the new US President.

With the latest developments today, Najib is even stronger than before and The New York Times seems to think so as well in its article two days ago.

But then what about the US announcement of 20th July 2016? Well, what about it? What has that got to do with Najib? In fact, what has that even got to do with 1MDB? Do you think the US is about to invade Malaysia and will send the Marines to Putrajaya and take Najib back to the US by force?

Maybe you are thinking of the Panamanian leader, Manuel Antonio Noriega Moreno, who the US kidnapped and brought back to the US when they invaded Panama in 1989. Well, remember that this is the same US that smuggled Ferdinand Emmanuel Edralin Marcos out of the Philippines to the safety of Hawaii so that the government could not arrest him — whereas Marcos and Noriega are like two peas in a pod.

So, if you think the US is going to take the side of the ANC to oust Najib and replace him with Mahathir’s proxy Prime Minister and Mukhriz as the new deputy then you are even more stupid than you look. The US will only do ONE thing, and that one thing is whatever serves the interest of the US in the ASEAN region against the backdrop of an emerging China.

The US Attorney General had better pray that Clinton wins the Presidency. If Trump wins instead then the Attorney General is going to be on benefits, as we say here in the UK. After all, she is not really Mother Teresa. And she has proven that whatever she does is whatever her political masters want her to do (which has been the culture since the days of Robert Kennedy more than 50 years ago).

Malaysians should stop hallucinating. It is not the US or the ANC that decides whether Najib stays or goes. It is Umno. And, of course, it will be the voters at the ballot box in 2018 that will decide if Barisan Nasional stays the government. And if the voters say yes then Najib gets to remain the Prime Minister because Umno is not about to kick him out.

So tell me, which part of Umno decides whether Najib remains the Prime Minister do you not understand?

Semua Tak Betul...Kau Saja Yang Betul!

Tun Mahathir mahu tubuh parti baru. Parti baru ini hanya mahu jatuhkan BN.

DS Mukhriz Mahathir kata.

Tetap Dalam Jiwa...
