A Beautiful Love Khmer Song...

The Great Khmer Empire-King Suryavarman II

(died c. 1150) Khmer (Cambodian) king under whom Angkor Wat was built. Suryavarman established sole rule over Cambodia in c. 1113, reuniting the country after 50 years of unrest. He expanded his country to include much of what is now Thailand, portions of Vietnam, and part of the Malay Peninsula. He promulgated Vaishnavism (a form of Hinduism), rather than the Buddhism of his predecessors, as the official religion. Construction of Angkor Wat, the world's largest religious structure and he made Angkor the biggest city in the world with glorious temples, monuments and grandeur. He figures prominently in its decorations. He died during a campaign against the kingdom of Champa; the Chams eventually ravaged Angkor.

Built to honour Vishnu between 800-1100 CE, and believed to be a replica of the home of gods, the ancient Angkor Wat is one of the largest religious temples in the world. Of the five large towers, the central tower is said to represent Mount Meru, where Shiva resides at the center of the world according to Hindu mythology. In all, there are 108 lotus bud shaped towers, a sacred number to both Hindi and Buddhists. More impressive than the structure of the city itself, are over 2,000 divine nymph figures called Asparas decorating the walls and towers. Among the nymphs are bas-reliefs describing the Hindu legends including the ancient battles (some fought in the sky), the 32 hells, 37 heavens and the creation myth Churning the Sea of Milk. Incredibly, this very large, elaborately constructed temple aligns with the constellation Draco of 10,500 BCE for the spring equinox. Attuned to the sun and moon, further studies have found the bas-relief to function as a marker for the days between winter and summer solstices, opening the door suggesting further hidden cosmological meaning. Over five million tons of sandstone was quarried and transported 25 miles to the temple.

Laura Mam And The Like Me's In Sva Rom Monkiss...

1. LAURA MAM

LAURA TEVARY MAM

This year’s top honor goes to the fastest-rising musical talent in Khmer America—San Jose’s Laura Mam. While at UC Berkeley, Mam was already generating buzz in her circle, performing for YouTubers and at Cambodian Student Association functions. But not until the formation of the all-girl quartet The Like Me’s did Mam’s music career blossom. Two viral tracks in 2010 paved the way: an original Khmer song, co-written by Mam’s mother Thida Buth, called “Pka Proheam Rik Popreay” released in February and a hip remake of the Pan Ron classic “Sva Rom Monkiss” in April. And 750,000 views later, Cambodia began calling, not once but three times—for concerts, interviews, and public appearances. With her trailblazing success, Mam has prompted a new willingness in Cambodia to open its arms to creative professionals from overseas. “My goals as a Cambodian American artist are focused solely on bridging the gap between the diaspora and our homeland,” Mam told Khmerican from Paris. “It is my greatest hope that others can follow a bridge I am building so that those abroad can come and fall in love with our home in the same way I did and contribute to national growth.” With that goal in mind, Mam has set 2013 as the year to return to her acoustic roots; she will be going public with a new solo EP in English and Khmer. Furthermore, Mam has a Khmer documentary project in the works to be announced shortly. “This year is definitely going to be a ‘work hard, play hard’ kind of year,” said Mam.

Masa Depan Ulu Tembeling Dengan Pokok Gaharu

Apa sebabnya kayu gaharu bernilai jual tinggi?

Tentu anda tertanya tanya apakah inokulasi?

The Future Of Iran : Reintegration Into The World Economy

editor

“What I truly wish is for moderation (Wassatiyah) to return to the country. This is my only wish.”

Hassan Rouhani the new President of Iran.

Hassan Rouhani reimagined Iran as a model for “reintegration into the world economy” and “playing a constructive role” in world affairs.

Center for Strategic Research (CSR), a think tank behind Hassan Rouhani.

For the past twenty years, Rouhani has spent part of his time here as president of the Center for Strategic Research (CSR), a think tank that informs the Expediency Council, the chief advisory board to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on political and economic matters. Through this experience, Rouhani had “the privilege to develop a pragmatic moderate trend” in Iranian politics.

There, he cultivated some of the country’s brightest moderate minds, many of whom he will likely bring into his administration.

CSR was founded in 1989 at a decisive moment in Iran’s history. Just two months after the death of Supreme Leader Grand Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

A decade after the revolution, the shape of Iranian society remains ill-defined. Questions as basic as whether the country is committed to a free-enterprise economy or should shift to socialism still are wide open.

But with reformists in charge, CSR fast became Iran’s most important think tank, an “attractive place” for academics and intellectuals to hold open-ended discussions on economic, security, and cultural affairs.

Rouhani recruited thinkers like Mahmoud Vaezi, an influential diplomat who had commandeered Iran’s shuttle diplomacy in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in 1992, and economic whiz Mohammed Bagher Nobakht, who envisaged the rerouting of oil revenues into infrastructure and social development projects. Ali Younesi also joined CSR as deputy director, where he advocated for the removal of restrictions on the activities of print media and civil society organizations.

With his brain trust assembled, Rouhani attempted an ambitious experiment: to establish an alternative “conservative moderate” political ideology. CSR offered a “third way,” trying to bridge the conservative-reformist divide that was narrowly focused on domestic debates over “ideological ideas or political reforms.” Instead, the new approach put equal emphasis on “constructive” foreign policy and economic development.

Behind Rouhani’s leadership and the ideas of people like Vaezi, Norbakht, and Younesi, the center reimagined Iran as a model for “reintegration into the world economy” and “playing a constructive role” in world affairs.

Iran with GDP: $876 billion (2009 est.) World Rank: 17. Major Exports: Petroleum (80%), chemical and petrochemical products, fruits and nuts, carpets.

Population: 66.4 million. Religion: Muslim 98% (Shia 89%, Sunni 9%), other (includes Zoroastrian, Jewish, Christian, and Baha'i) 2%.

Clearly the Shia bashing in Malaysia by the religious people is not productive in fostering economics relationship between Iran and Malaysia.

There are many economics agendas can be discussed between DS Najib and President Hassan Rouhani for the mutual benefits of both countries.

Malaysian Ringgit Slumps Why Bank Negara Not Intervene?

The Malaysian ringgit has slumped to a three-year low. It was last trading at around 3.2332 against the U.S. dollar.

The ringgit has dropped 8.8% against the U.S. dollar since May 9, making it one of Asia's worst-performing currencies, as global investors withdrew fled emerging markets.

Malaysia economy grew at its slowest pace in three years during the first quarter, while falling exports have worsened its trade balance and foreigners own a high level of government debt.

Fitch Ratings lowered the country's credit-rating outlook to negative from stable, citing its public finances as a "key rating weakness."

The country is at risk of recording its first current-account deficit since 1997. Forecast for Malaysia's economy this year, predicting growth of 5.1%, down from 5.6% last year.

Malaysia is most vulnerable to outflows  it saw the heaviest inflows as a percentage of gross domestic product.

The high level of foreign ownership of government debt—49.5% at the end of May—is now a "point of vulnerability.

The worry is that the country's worsening economic fundamentals, as well as a stronger U.S. dollar and higher U.S. Treasury yields, will prompt foreign investors to dump Malaysian government bonds.

Malaysia Ringgit slumps why Bank Negara not intervene?

In the current environment, fundamentals are becoming increasingly important for long-term investors and although there is a concern over Malaysia's narrowing trade balance and current-account surplus, this as temporary as the weakening ringgit will boost exports and in turn rebalance the currency.

Bank Negara has refrained recently from intervening to strengthen the ringgit. Part of the reason for recent ringgit weakness may be the Bank Negara conspicuous absence from the spot currency market, the government might be allowing the currency to weaken to boost exports and improve the trade balance.

Malaysia’s ringgit selloff appears exaggerated?

Malaysia's normally tranquil currency and bond markets have been whipsawed by an exodus of foreign capital as investors reassess emerging markets most at risk from a withdrawal of US easy money policy, heightening the possibility of a vicious sell-off that could hurt the economy.

The ringgit currency is at three-year lows against the dollar and month-long selling has pushed 10-year Malaysian government bond yields to their highest in 2-1/2 years.

Economic growth is slowing, the country's typically large trade surplus has nearly disappeared and the government has been dragging its feet on much-needed reforms to fix a large fiscal deficit - all giving foreign investors reason to re-evaluate their exposure to the Southeast Asian country.

But a bigger worry for them has been talk that regular bulk domestic buyers of Malaysian bonds, the state pension fund and banks included, are purchasing less. That has led to heavier selling than analysts think is justified by the economic risks.

As of May, foreigners held nearly 50 per cent of outstanding government bonds, the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) a little more than 30 per cent and the rest by local banks and insurers.

The latest central bank data shows foreign holdings slipped to RM137.88 billion in June from RM144.5 billion in May.

Falling bond yields and the pressure to improve returns have compelled banks to divert investments into corporate bonds and longer-term Islamic finance products.

The EPF hasn't explicitly said it will slow its bond purchases. But 55 per cent of its investments are in bonds and it has said it wants to expand its foreign portfolio in search of higher yields. The EPF is investing in German and French properties.

It is little surprise then that a redemption of RM9.2 billion of local government bonds this week unnerved foreigners, exaggerating fears about the economy even though it far more resilient to capital flows than peers such as Indonesia, India, Thailand or South Korea.

Fitch Ratings added to those worries on Tuesday, placing Malaysia's A minus rating on negative outlook, citing weak prospects for reforms to fix public finances.

So far, the selloff in Malaysia stops short of being termed turmoil. The ringgit has fallen 6.6 per cent since May 22, when the Fed first raised the spectre of early stimulus withdrawal, less than the Indian rupee's 8.5 per cent drop.

The stock market is down 2 per cent in the past week, only a fraction of the 33 per cent gains in two years.

The risk is that the falling currency and the spotlight on the shrinking current account surplus will push Malaysia into a vicious feedback loop of capital outflows and plunging markets.

But the issue of whether Malaysia becomes an India or Indonesia is when the outflows jeopardise the fundamental picture and the fundamental picture jeopardises the flows picture. Then it becomes more serious.

For emerging market investors positioning for tighter Federal Reserve policy, the possibility that the current account surplus will vanish this year puts Malaysia in the same basket as India, Indonesia and Thailand - economies that are highly vulnerable to sudden shifts in foreign capital.

That was a point Fitch made, although the delay in measures to fix government debt that is close to hitting a constitutional ceiling of 55 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) was the primary reason for the negative outlook on ratings.

A failure to contain spending will render it impossible for the government to bring its budget deficit down to a targeted 3 per cent of GDP by 2015, from 4.5 per cent in 2012.

The primary means for doing that would be through a general sales tax and a reduction of heavy subsidies on fuel.

But Prime Minister Najib Razak must safely negotiate internal party elections on October 5 to solidify his position before he can attempt to take any such unpopular measures. His position is weak after his Barisan Nasional coalition scraped through with a depleted majority in the general election in May.

Markets appear sceptical about prospects for reform. The ringgit firmed only briefly before retreating on Thursday after Najib said his government was committed to improving the fiscal position and would announce steps to do so in October.

Meanwhile, plunging prices of Malaysia' palm oil exports and rising copper imports have hurt the trade balance, although analysts expect the current account will still show a marginal surplus in 2013.

Foreigners pumped US$9.3 billion (RM27.9 billion) into Malaysian bonds in 2012, and US$5 billion until May this year.

There is so much pretty mobile money that has poured in and can pour out. By that token, the exodus of all this money can be a problem. It can be self-fulfilling

Pakar Anti-Keganasan Dunia Kata Najib Silap Mansuhkan ISA Dan EO?

Isu  keselamatan negara @ 'national security', mana kita mahu dengar dari ahli politik atau pakar? Logiknya ahli politik dengar pandangan pakar.

WZWH akan jelaskan kenapa Najib berpandangan begitu. Sebelum itu kita dengar pandangan pakar dulu.

Rohan Gunaratna adalah pakar anti-keganasan dunia. WZWH mahu tahu pandangan Razak Baginda tetapi beliau ada di London susah mahu contact. Kalau ambil pandangan beliau pun mungkin rakyat Malaysia tidak mahu terima kerana kes berprofail tingginya.

Rohan Gunaratna adalah Pengarah the International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research di Nanyang Technological University, Singapura adalah pusat kajian dan latihan counter-terroris yang terbesar di dunia.

Pakar Rohan Gunaratna kata:
  • Keganasan @ terrorism masih lagi kuat mengancam dunia sejak serangan 9/11 di New York

Kenapa Najib bertindak demikian? Najib mahu undi semasa PRU 13 .

Mungkin Lee kuan Yew mendesak Rohan Gunaratna memperlekehkan usaha Najib memansuhkan ISA kerana takut majoriti rakyat Singapura mahu Singapura ikut langkah Malaysia.
